The Zulu Army in 1879 by Mick Farnworth

08-Jun-2009 Michael "Mick" Farnworth has created an incredibly informative and indepth article on the Zulu Army in 1879. This 22 page magnum opus delves into the history, tactics, weapons, uniforms, and also includes a VERY thorough description of both married and unmarried regiments including shield designs for each!

Nice work. If you fellas at WF wanted to you could make another link for these items: "Downloadables" or something so articles/sources/wallpapers (*wink*)/rules etc. are easy to find in 1 area. ~just my $0.02

Great idea. It would be better if you could provide this kind of support for all your products (you have to research the subjects anyway). Providing it in summerized form to your customers will give added bonus to WF products. Its very easy to find info on the Celts for eg but this kind of info would encourage novice wargamers.

Un buonissimo articolo, servirà sicramente a tutti gli appassionati come me dei valorosi guerrieri "Zulu". Dovrebbero realizzare una cosa così anche per altre truppe.

Translation of Bruno Chillemi's comment - A very good article, which is undoubtedly useful to all enthusiasts, like me, of the brave Zulu warriors. You should so also do this for other troops.

I looked with avid interest at the different zulu regiments involved in each Zulu War battle. However, I was focusing on Khambula when I noticed descrepancies in which part of the "bull" attack each regiment was in. In the book "Washing of the Spears" D. Morris has the InGobamakhosi advancing across the chest with the abaQulusi. Yet on some internet sites they have these situated on the right horn. Also the some of these sites have the umCijo and others on the left horn - but apparently Morris has them on the right. It was these that he says Buller fired on to get them running up the hill prematurely, before the "Bull" was set for a simultaneous attack. Could you shed light on what is right please here? Have people got the Zulu left/right mixed up with the British left/right, hence the confusion? I would be grateful if you could put out a definite list to which Zulu regiments made each part of the "bull" attck - (right horn, left horn, chest and loins). cheers - oh great work by the way!
