Will boxes without command figures be available? The sets are a bit command heavy for my tastes and it would be nice to have the option to get more regular line troops.

Hi Jeff -- the boxes are designed to allow you to field 3 Battle Groups of Legionaries for the Late Republican Roman list in Field of Glory's Rise of Rome companion army list book.

You could alternatively create 2 large units with command and 18 legionaries in each (22 figure units) -- and take the extra command figures to create a vignette stand -- or use them for casualty markers with a little modeling!

Excellent Idea! I see that the Perry's are doing the same with ACW. Unfortunately I have plenty of Roman 28's. I've been waiting for Napoleonics or Seven Yrs War stuff for some time, but I don't want to spend $1000 per army.

Have visited the workbench area and these miniatures look great! Looking forward to getting these and the Celts when they become available...:)

will there be pictures of the actual models on the boxes ? i remember AEG made the mistake of just using art on their boxes of clanwar, so you had no idea what the models looked like inside.

Everything sounds promising but I would like to see some photos of thee actual figures; both unpainted and painted, singularily and ranked up in a unit.

I'll be getting some of these, I just love the models. I'll be all over those Men-At-Arms and Bowmen for my Bretonnian army as well. ;)

It is a bit strange that Wargames Factory and Warlord Games are both releasing Romans and Celts in 25-28mm hard plastic. Hopefully WF will get into the medieval support since WG already has their first Roman box on the market and is soon to release their Celts. In all honesty I would prefer to support an American company (and avoid trans-Atlantic shipping costs) than an English one but the quality of the miniatures is still the paramount concern. Please, Wargames Factory, let us see the goods!

Looks good. I think it's a fair value for the amount of mini's you get. Can't wait to see pictures of the sprues and samples of assembled minis.

I really do like these miniatures, but I was wondering if you might include bases for the miniatures and a list of possible ways to organize the figs so that they best fit the Field of Glory rules? I think that they are awesome though.

Hi any release date for romans , they seem a bit like Billy Bunter's Postal order,ie always due but never arriving. Will there be just one type of transfer in these boxes or several different transfers.

I am trying to make a small list with what will come in the roman army box of minitures but I have a couple of questions. 1.) I am asuming that the Centurions, Optios, Signifers,and Cornicens are not actually command figs because if they are modeled separatley then you do not have enough figs to make 4 bases with 4 models each for 3 battle groups (48 models exactly). So if those special figs are to be modeled in with the battle groups should I make just one base with one of each special fig for each battle group? Or should I spread them out, putting one of each special fig on separate bases within the same battle group? 2.) The models with throwing spears are clearly ment to be classed as heavy armoured given their large shields and metal amour that they are wearing. However, in the Rise of Rome book the only spear throwing fig listed is un armoured. So I am allowed to officially alter the models profile and point cost according to the main rules so that my models capabilites are acuratly represented? I know thats alot but I greatly appreciate any feed back.

Hi Michael, You will probably want your Centurion, Signifer, and Cornicen in the front row of your BG with the Optio in the rear row. If you do larger BGS (more than 16-figures) you can also take some of these and use them on a Command stand. Re: designation of LRR in the Field of Glory books. Historically, legionaries threw their pilum prior to charging in with their scutum (shield) and gladius (sword). RE: The pilum throwing: This is considered part of the impact phase and not actual 'shooting'. Much like Tony says, they were only used prior to contact - not as a sustained missle. Hey Tony, any way we can see examples of the battle groups using your figures? I would really like to see how these form up on FoG bases.

I feel a civil war coming on having just read Ospreys Philippi and Caesars Civil Wars. But if you have any influence over Osprey steer them towards Alesia as a title as that could stimulate intrest in buying Gauls. Great figures though now waiting with baited breath for Northstar to start selling them in the UK.

Finally!! Good news, the troops are marching out. Now, When will the Celts be coming. A date would be nice.

yeah would be nice to be able to get them in the uk - they do look good and marian legionaries are not too well represented among the established manufacturers. suppose i'll have to wait a while for the persians!

Got these yesterday via Caliver Books - well worth the wait and the extra compensation for that - like the models both lots! It will be great to multipose these guys, as other ranges are very limited.

Picked these up at Fall In and just finished assembly and priming. Detail level is really nice. They are very close in style and size to the old Foundry Caesareans and also the stuff Copplestone did for Companion. Highly recommended. Especially when you would have to pay over 100 bucks to get the same # of Foundry figures.

I am still waiting for the box pre-ordered here, but I couldn't wait any longer and ordered some from Cavalier Books. They arrived yesterday and I painted a legionary straight away. I agree with 'Centurion Bryan' 100%. GREAT value for money. I just hope they'll do more late republican Roman stuff (cavalry, auxiliaries, etc.) Well done, Wargames Factory! Cheers

Do you have a production list of future sets? I just recently checked out Fields of Glory and Your Site and I am very interested in the Punic Wars. I am wanting to see what you have in the pipe line and their 'estimated' release dates. Everything I have seen for this set is great!

The Roman legion is stupendous compliments... I would want to do you some questions!! 1 - it would be possible to also see even the spurious ones of assemblage in photo. 2 - I could see the other concerning products the Roman epoch him on the 28mm that on the 15mm... carlo.wargames@libero.it thanks

I'm very likely to get these, as they look fantastic. My only curiosity is whether we could see a picture of the sprues themselves, like you have on the Zulu wars page. Anyway, these are great.

Could you post a pic of the actual sprues? Just to get an idea of how many pieces and how they go together?

Bought a couple of boxes on impulse from a local hobby shop, and was very pleasantly surprised -- after 30+ years of painting figs, that's saying a lot. Nicely done figures, historically accurate, with reasonably good detail. Very clean molding. Paint-up almost as well as the best lead figs. Assembly takes time, but I love the cost.

These Romans look really good. It's about time that there were plastic 28mm figures on the market that weren't GW! This is good mainly because your figures are much cheaper than theirs. Just a couple of questions, would you be able to fit these figures into a GW movement tray? Also, 3 Centurions, 3 optios, 3 cornicens and 3 signifiers seems a bit much, why don't you put one of each in? Or create a command pack?

hey great stuff...good enough to make me want to leap from 15mm figs to the big guys....but need the full complement--what about the roman velites and such? are they destined to arrive anytime soon? seems imperative to get two full armies up and running so folks can paint up and go to the fields.

Love the Romans. Ranking them up is a bit difficult, and I found some poses "worked" better than others. Nonetheless, for a first effort, these were a pleasant - no - wonderful surprise. I've always wanted Caesar's army, but was unable/unwilling to pay Foundry prices for them. Your Germans and Celts show just how much progress in the model-making art you've made. Congrats!

took advantage of the 09/09/09 sale ... wish I had ordered another box. The figures are awesome. I've spent most of my free time the last 4 days putting romans together.

Got a box of romans the other day along with some british zulus. Im glad their the same hight as my old glory metal romans. My only complaint so far is that Ive had to cut on all the ball joint heads to fit right. Not that big a deal though, Ive had to deal with worse. Details not bad for plastics and in a few days Ill be able to compare them painted to my old glory metal minis. Good job keep it up...

I just got my boxes in and got some free stuff with it too :) These minis are great even at full price, but on sale, with the extra thrown in, these easily rate at amazing!

Is there enough equipment so that ALL the Legionnaires have swords and Shields? I want to use these guys for an alternate-miniature WHFB Empire army. :D

Mostly AWESOME! I love having the ability to individualize my legionaries. My only suggestion/issue is that the command element is a bit over-represented and I would have preferred maybe 2 of each with the difference filled in with rank & file troops. The poses, the uniforms, armor and helmets as well as all of the weapons are really great, especially the "Mainz" pattern of the swords, really a great touch. Although these troops could be used from the age of Marius (100BC) up til about the reign of Augustus, there are parts like the aforementioned swords, really make this army ideal for Caesar's time. I can't wait to field these guys against some Gauls or Germans.

These look awesome, and i have just invested in a roman army starter set. Think im gonna fill it in with a couple of these bad boys :).

Very nice, easy to make and look great painted, based on coins the weight issue for plastic fig's is no longer a problem
